Recovery Day

We had a pretty eventful night last night. After settling in for what we though would be the night after our outing, I put Jack to sleep with a moderate fever. After checking on him a few times I noticed that he seemed to be getting hotter and hotter. At about 9:45 he was up and we found out that he had a temp of 104. Yikes! We pushed the Tylenol and put him in a lukewarm bath. We were able to lower his temp by one degree, but we didn't think that was good enough and headed to the hospital, which is 40 minutes away. On the way there I kept taking his temp and it was still super high. We got there and they gave him more Tylenol and IBU. Evidently we were giving him far less than what he should have for his weight. The folks in the ER said that drug companies are conservative with their dosage so they don't get sewed. Anyway, he got checked out and they wanted to collect a urine sample. They put a wee bag on him, which turned out to be very uncomfortable for him and we waited for him to go. By 1:30 we were all tuckered out and just wanted to head home so they sent us with the supplies and I had to collect the urine and bring it back in the morning. We all got to bed around 2 a.m. Poor Dylan was up at 5:30 to start getting ready for school. It was definitely a rough night.

Today Jack seems to be on the mend. We took two really nice naps in the chair together and now he's upstairs asleep. We still don't know what caused his high fever. Last Monday he had his 1 year check up with shots and I guess the MMR one can have lasting side effects for up to 2 weeks. The urine sample came back fine--no infection. Hopefully he's just on the mend.
