Yesterday we left super early (even by our standards) for Seward to hike to Derby Cove Cabin to spend two nights. We arrived at the trail head 2 hours before low tide. You can only hike to this cabin when the tide is low. We plopped to kiddos in the Chariot and all walkers, even Tua, dawned packs. We hiked for about an hour and 20 minutes when we reached a river where the bridge had been washed out. D waded the river, looking for a way to cross, but only could find a spot where it was knee deep. That was not going to work for our stroller packed to the gills with gear and kids, so we turned around. The terrain was similar to what we experienced hiking the Resurrection Pass Trail last summer. Good thing D is part mountain goat and the kids were sleeping. We headed back to the car and shelled out the $150 for all of us to be brought to the cabin by water taxi. Unfortunately, I do not have a picture of the quaint cabin because every single second we were there it was raining. I dared to pull my camera out a couple of times when it was sprinkling. We definitely had fun and are looking forward to going when the kids are older. One thing we have left to do is hike to a WWII fort.
J really enjoyed playing kitchen with the cabin's pots and pans.
M seemed to get a little cold while we were there. I had wished I had my new booger sucker with me. It's called the Nosefrida. Click the link to check it out. I would now add it to my list of baby must-haves.
Sleep is by far the most challenging part of traveling with little ones. J went to sleep around 9 p.m. He then woke up at midnight terrified. I think he was just unsure of his surroundings and it was really dark in the cabin with only one headlamp. Here I am putting him to sleep the first time.
So I mentioned it rained the whole time we were there. In this picture you can see the bridge that crosses a small creek to our cabin. Last evening we could see it rising. We thought by morning it might be over the bridge, but it was actually lower. I'm not quite sure how that works since it had been raining all night.
More fun in the kitchen.
M seems so old in this picture. This chair is a favorite for when we are camping. Not only is this a sweet spot to sit when you're eating, it also is key to wrangling a toddler when we need to get some camp chores accomplished.
The rain was coming off the the overhanging rocks like a little shower. J hung out underneath it getting wet in his rain gear.
J is checking out the rocks with barnacles. We saw a jelly fish and a seal on our trip.
D caught a silver salmon from shore.
